A little of history...
On September1990, it was officially founded in Lecce the Isaac Newton C.R.A.
– Astronomic Search center – that is one of the 150 association of Astronomy
Amateurs introduced in Italy. Astronomy Amateurs are persons that nuorish a
particular interest for Astronomy, love examining carefully its various
areas and, although they are not any real astronomers, they have also a
vivacious research activity.
Initially our principal function was to gather several interested persons
from Salento and to devote us exclusively to the observation and research,
but, subsequently, necessity was also placed side by side to develop one
more extensive popular action in the astronomic field, going to hold, so, a
role of notable importance in the different social circles.
Our intervention in every order and degree schools, for exemples, have
permitted to several students to widen and improve their knowledges about
astronomy.
At same manner, organizing nomerous observative evenings directed to the
public, we were surprised that people were interested about the observation
of the sky wonders.
Infact, thanks to the use of our instruments, many people have been able to
admire, for the first time in their life, planets, satellites, stars... and
every thing was accessible that very moment.

C.R.A., and now it is good to
specify it, hasn’t absolutely any aim of profit: it is exclusively the passion
of each partner of us toward the sky and its stars that makes live the
assocation, passion that sometimes pushes us to reach observative places
situated not so really near home...
We believe that one of the best sites in our region is in Basilicata, at St.
Severino Lucano (Pz), where, at least three times a year we go to provide eyes
with a little of infinite...
C.R.A. has also become promoter of an initiative that has picked up consents and
partecipants from the whole south Italy, it deals with the Astronomy Amateurs
“Under Pollino’s sky” assembly, happened, for the first time, in 1998, in summer,
really at St. Severino Lucano. |
